Suvi Mahonen is a journalist based in Surfers Paradise on Australia’s Gold Coast. Her non-fiction appears on many platforms including The Weekend Australian Magazine, HuffPost and The Establishment. To date, the article she is most proud of working on and which received a phenomenal response from the public is a long-form feature on photobiomodulation for Parkinson’s Disease inspired by a wonderful doctor on the Gold Coast named Mark Jeffery. Ever since the story ran in October 2017 the letters and emails have been continuing to flood in, many of them from people who are now using light therapy after reading about it in the story and are experiencing benefits. The piece can be found by Googling “Suvi Mahonen let there be light”.

Suvi also writes fiction. Her stories have been widely published in literary journals and anthologies including in The Best Australian Stories and Griffith Review. A portion of a longer work-in-progress was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

“I believe that the ability to make a positive difference to people's lives is the beating heart of credible journalism.”. Suvi Mahonen
